Rune held on tightly to the reigns of Kalinka and Esther. She was determined to familiarize Kalinka with the new area she had just been adopted into, the tokota was already showing signs of improvement since her arrival. Esther's head remained higher than Kalinka's at all times, she was feeling a bit jealous by all the attention Rune was giving "Linka" lately and she was going to make sure she remained Rune's favorite. Esther paced herself ahead of Linka and checked in often on her. Linka, however, remained oblivious only staying attentive to Rune when she signaled her to on the reigns.

It was the night of Halloween, the air was perfectly crisp and the streets were decorated with jack-o-lanturns, spider webs, and anything spooky. It was a perfect time to help Linka cope with noisy environments full of children, people and other tokos. Link was already socialized elsewhere, but Rune wanted her to get used to the Alaskan area and children. They were especially feisty this hallowed-eve.

Speaking of the hypothetical devil, a few children had approached them that night, asking for treats and toko rides. Rune couldn't decline the oppertunity, so she gave them rides to houses on the backs of both Linka and Esther. The tokos seemed to enjoy it; the children were behaving well, rewarding them with pats and head scratches. Even if Esther attempted to sneak a treat from one of the children's bucket. Her attempt failed, however, as she got her muzzle stuck in the jack-o-lanturn like bucket.

Rune helped to take it off, "Really, Esther? Stooping so low as to take children's candy?"
You could tell by her body language, Esther was very regretful.
The children loved that, it only made them adore her more.
The group consisted of a young fairy like little girl, a skeleton-unitard-wearing older brother, and a teenage-witch older sister with a fake familiar cat on her shoulder.
"Alright kids, this'll be our last stop," Rune announced as the approached the cul-de-sac of the neighborhood, "then you'll have to go home with your folks." She gestured to the couple who had been leisurely following the group, admiring the decorations the house-owners had put out.
"Awww..." the children sighed in unison. The little girl clutched the collar of Linka tightly, ruffling her fur.
Rune helped the three children down from the tokos and pointed to the middle house of the cul-de-sac, "It looks like they're the only ones left. The other's have turned off their porch lights."
The children looked at the house, it was quite bigger than the others, much like a small mansion to them. A two-story decorated roof to porch with spider webs, ghost like blankets. The yard was littered with grave stones, with dead grass and trees to match. They even had fake shadows in the windows with lights that occasionally revealed their hiding spots in the dark window panes. It was enough to frighten even teenagers if they were skeptical enough.
The little fairy looked back at Rune and reached out for her paw. Rune of course smiled and took hold, "It'll be alright. I have to stay here though, to watch the tokos."
The little girl looked at the tokos, then back at her older sister who took her hand instead as they walked up the narrow stone path to the porch.
When they stepped on the wood it creeked and something giggled impishly. The little girl jumped and hugged her brother,
"It's just a motion sensor thing or something...r-right sis?" he explained and looked to his older sister for confirmation. She was obviously nervous as well.
Linka and Esther were nervous for the children, they whined a bit while watching them approach the door.

Little did they notice, they were about to pass the suspiciously covered metal bench. Just as the little fairy took a step in front of it, a figure jumped out at them, growling ferociously. The little girl jumped back and screamed, as did the brother.
This set off Esther and Linka who began barking and pulling at the reigns. Rune was only strong enough to hold one back as Esther's reigns slipped loose and she darted towards the house, barking furiously.
Esther leaped over the crying children and attacked the monster scaring them, tearing into its rubbery flesh.

Barking, screaming, crying, growling. The whole things was a mess. Quickly the homeowner appeared, trying to shout above the noise, "Control your damn tokota! Get it off my lawn!"

Once the skirmish had settled down, children comforted by their parents, Rune attempted to explain the situation to them, who were rightfully concerned. "I'm so so very sorry," Rune tied the reigns to arm tighter, "There was some zombie animatronic designed to jump at people who come across its sensor. Esther...she was just-"
The mother held out her hand, "I understand, she was just trying to protect my kids, i know." She glared at the homeowner, who hadn't even come out to apologize, while he assessed the damage to his property.
"I still feel so bad for the kids...I-" Rune was very concerned, but when she looked back at Esther, she smiled.
Esther was being smothered with pets and praise from the children, even fairy kisses, which she returned.
"It's fine," the mother replied, "They love her and I'm glad she attacked that stupid thing. Who does that to children and sleeps well at night anyhow?"

After a good laugh, an apology from the owner, and from Rune. The children said their goodbye's to the tokos and their hero, Esther.

Rune reassured Esther for the rest of the journey that there were no more zombies out to get children, "That was great Esther, but...dang. Now i have to pay for one of those stupid zombie things in the first place...the butt..."
Esther turned to face her with a bag in her mouth,
"Hm? What's this? Did the children give this to you?" Rune asked.
Esther and Linka wagged happily as they awaited the contents of the bag to be revealed.
